WELCOME

Blackwell Consulting provides business appraisals for optometrists, with a focus on appraisals for sales, purchases, partnerships and mergers.  Our goal is to provide the client with a report that is professionally prepared and sufficiently detailed so that it can be used by advisors (accountants, lawyers, bankers and consultants) to help negotiate the transition.

Clients who receive detailed reports documenting the analysis and calculations tend to have an easier time negotiating their asking price or offer price.  Lack of detail creates a situation in which the parties do not understand how the value was determined, and hence, tend to distrust the results of the appraisal.  In some cases, lack of detail can cause the deal to fall through.

ABOUT

Marilee Blackwell, MBA, AIBA

Ms. Blackwell, a leading financial professional in the optometric industry, is known for her honesty, integrity and excellent client service. Armed with an MBA, Marilee became an accredited business appraiser in 1999. Accreditation was accomplished by attending an eight day workshop over a one year period, passing the comprehensive written examination and submitting a business appraisal report demonstrating a professional level of competence.  As the assistant controller of a large, multi-specialty medical clinic in Texas, Marilee gained an expertise in financial accounting, budgeting, forecasting and the health care environment. Marilee's articles on business practice management, profitability, associate and partner relations and appraisals have been published by Optometry Today, Optometric Management and Review of Optometry. As a top consultant in the industry, she has appraised hundreds of optometric practices and provided clients with advice on creating win/win deals.

MISSION

Our mission is to provide an unbiased opinion of value to our clients when purchasing a practice, selling a practice or forming a partnership. We believe that greater knowledge gives optometric professionals the edge they need to make a deal that is a win/win for both parties, while at the same time meeting their personal and financial objectives.
